چکیده
A 23-year-old male motorcyclist experienced blunt head trauma with loss of consciousness, headache and vomiting, epistaxis right otorrhagia after a collision motor vehicle. Fractures involving the parietal temporal bones, as well acute subdural subarachnoid hemorrhage were identified on cranial facial CT scan. On independent evaluation imaging study, subtle but distinct fracture line in skull base petrous carotid canal was identified. (Figure 1) The patient subsequently underwent angiography to evaluate for any injury internal artery. In this examination, good opacification arteries their branches noted, no evident aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation or fistula formation.
patients bone fractures, most commonly encountered complications are: tympano-ossicular causing conductive hearing loss, cochlear vestibular sensorineural vertigo, nerve paralysis, fractures tegmen posterior fossa plate cerebrospinal fluid leaks.1 other hand, intratemporal portion artery has been described rare complication such may be overlooked.1 However, its potentially devastating life-threatening sequelae necessitates purposeful intentional presence. These include brain ischemia from arterial dissection complete vascular occlusion, exsanguinating pseudoaneurysms, formation carotid-cavernous fistulas.2 incidence involvement reported around 24%, 11% group developing injuries.3 As such, presence is an indication MR further artery.4

We present the case of a 22-year old male patient with no history of interest, who attended consultation due to holocranial headache, with no nausea, vomiting, photophobia or focality, of 6 months’ duration. The patient also presented rhinorrhoea and night time snoring. The otoneurolaryngological examination was normal except for bilateral papillary oedema and palpebral ptosis. A cranial CT sca...
متن کاملCT of petrous carotid aneurysms.
Aneurysms arising from the petrous part of the internal carotid artery (ICA) are exceedingly uncommon. Only 21 angiographically proven cases have appeared in the literature [1-6) . The CT appearance of these rare lesions has not previously been reported. In the two cases described here, the CT pattern closely resembles that of the more common petrous apex meningioma. Consideration of a petrous ...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The petrous and cavernous segments of the extradural internal carotid artery take a complex course through the skull base before entering the subarachnoid space distal to the cavernous sinus. Despite the protection from trauma afforded by the anatomy, the petrous and carotid internal carotid artery (ICA) segments of the vessel remains subject to disease, the most importan...
متن کاملAneurysms of the petrous portion of the internal carotid artery.
Aneurysms of the petrous portion of the internal carotid artery are rare lesions. One case is reported here and 18 others have been found in the literature. These lesions usually arise in young men who present with auditory dysfunction. The aneurysm is usually discovered as a pulsating purple mass in the middle ear and mistaken for a glomus jugulare tumor. A definitive diagnosis can be made by ...
متن کاملSurgical anatomy of petrous part of the internal carotid artery
Exposition of the petrous part of the internal carotid artery (pICA) necessitates close control during surgery for proximal internal carotid artery aneurysms. The most difficult manipulation is the exposure of the internal carotid artery on the level of the carotid canal, and in most cases it is accompanied by local neurological complications in postoperative period that are results of the trau...
